Remember fax machines, telexes and DOS computers? I do. I started out in marketing when technology was almost non-existent. My computer's hard drive was the size of a small suitcase and mobile phones were bigger than a house brick.
Back then, phones had only one purpose - just to talk through, no cameras, maps, or internet. I would stuff envelopes with flyers about upcoming events, and walk to the bank with the company’s daily takings – all in cash! At the time, I worked in theatre management, promoting and selling event tickets through press advertising alone. Almost everything was done manually.
When social media arrived I knew it would change the way we used marketing for good, but no one was teaching it at the time. So I left my role and started working as a contractor, helping companies use it to generate sales: I literally learned on the job, picking up tips from ‘gurus’ whom I followed religiously.
As my skills and experience grew, I worked with larger companies, specialising in B2B (business to business) eventually becoming Digital Marketing Manager for global companies.
In December 2025 two things happened, I was made redundant and my son, a plumber, decided to start out on his own. His company took off immediately but he found himself overwhelmed with all the admin, so rather than find another job I decided to help him and other trades, put systems in place so they can concentrate on the tools.
We started with a simple missed call back service, which worked so well he now automates bookings, quotes and contracts - all from the system I've built.

Absolutely thrilled to have won the Bank and Payments Marketing Team of the Year 2025, pictured here collecting the award with my colleagues at Deutsche Numis.
And below are some of the brands I've worked with through my long career.
